India: Strange movement of villagers, crocodile taken hostage for ransom

In India, the villagers made a strange move and took the fish hostage for ransom.

According to details, the residents of a village in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh demanded a ransom for handing over a crocodile to the authorities.

According to the foreign news agency, an 8-foot-tall crocodile was swept away in a pond, which was caught by the villagers in the village of Madian in Uttar Pradesh.

The villagers thought they would get money in exchange for the crocodile, a wildlife official said, adding that the locals had caught the crocodile and demanded Rs 50,000 to return it.

According to officials, the fish had reached the pond from a tiger sanctuary near the village as a result of floods in the state. Anil Patel, a department official, said the villagers were hardly persuaded, and had to enlist the help of the local administration and police.

The official said that the villagers were also threatened with legal action and told that they could be imprisoned for up to 7 years for this crime. They were persuaded with great difficulty and handed over the crocodile which was found nearby. Left in the river.

The official said the incident showed how much people needed to be educated about wildlife, not even knowing that crocodiles were on the list of animal protection laws.
