"I'm a thief," the supermarket put a board around the elderly woman's neck

An elderly woman stealing meat from a supermarket was seated at the gate with a "I'm a thief" sign around her neck.

The incident took place in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong, where an elderly woman was seen sitting outside a supermarket last Friday with a sign hanging around her neck, according to a foreign news agency.

According to media reports, the sign around the woman's neck read, "I have stolen for the third time."

The supermarket claimed that the elderly woman herself had agreed to such a sentence.

Zong, the supermarket manager, said the elderly woman was stealing meat and this was the third theft in a single day.

Zong said the woman came to the store to buy groceries and hid a meat shopper in her bag, then paid for the rest of the goods and left the supermarket without paying for the meat. Went out

The manager said the woman's move was noticed by a supermarket employee, who stopped her and searched the bag, from which a meat shopper was found.

According to media reports, the manager informed the police after the goods were recovered. The police imposed a fine on the woman which was to be paid to her family but the family refused to pay the fine.

Following the family's refusal, the manager devised a way to punish the woman so that other people could learn a lesson.
