According to Egyptian media, the election monitoring committee has excluded the candidates who tested positive for drugs after being instructed to undergo a medical examination.
According to Hisham Masood, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Health, a total of 550 candidates were medically examined in connection with the 2020 parliamentary elections and it was ensured that all reports are completed and sent to the Election Commission.
In Menofla, four candidates for the House of Representatives were disqualified on medical grounds, while in Clovia, three candidates tested positive.
In Mansura, 17 people, including three women, were disqualified after testing positive for drugs.
Saturday was the last day for candidates to submit nomination forms and the disqualification of 30 candidates has come as a shock to some parties.
It may be recalled that on September 10, the National Election Authority of Egypt had announced to hold parliamentary elections in Egypt on October 24 and 25.
Elections for Egypt's overseas citizens will be held on October 21, 22 and 23, and the results will be announced on November 1.
