Eco-friendly leather made of mushrooms

 


Vienna, Austria: Acquiring eco-friendly, low-cost and easy-to-use leather is being debated around the world, and now material scientists claim to make a leather-like product from mushrooms.

Traditional leather produces industrial pollutants and toxic compounds, which is why leather making has a significant place in polluting industries. Traditional leather also requires plenty of fresh water.

That is why the fashion industry is looking for leather alternatives, the answer to which is now found in the form of green leather of mushrooms. Alexander Bismarck, a scientist at the University of Vienna, said that leather made of vegetables could replace traditional leather and plastic.

Although fungi and biomass have long been used to make textiles and leather, according to a report published in Nature Sustainability, mushrooms are a type of fungus from which leather is made, but the biggest obstacle is still the large amount of leather. Is achieved. But last year, a Finnish team devised a way to increase fungicide production that could be used.

But the day is not far when leather products can be made from fungi, mushrooms and other types of plants.
