An attempt to smuggle snuff was foiled in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The snuff was being smuggled by diesel tanker.
According to the Emirati News Agency, police in Abu Dhabi foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of snuff through a diesel tanker and arrested the driver.
According to police, the accused was the driver of a diesel tanker belonging to a petrol supply company which was trying to smuggle 750 kg of snuff into the tanker and bring it to Abu Dhabi. Sources in the Abu Dhabi Crime Branch said they had received information that an attempt was being made to smuggle large quantities of snuff.
Upon the report of snuff being brought, the Crime Branch team started a massive investigation and reached out to the smuggler. The accused was arrested along with 750 kg of snuff and a case of smuggling illicit material was registered.
Abu Dhabi police sources say snuff is one of the prohibited items traded here.
Col. Muhammad Sohail Al-Rashidi, Regional Director, Abu Dhabi Police's Anti-Crime Department, said that the Crime Branch was joined by officials from the Abu Dhabi Municipality and other agencies to thwart the snuff smuggling operation, which resulted in a comprehensive operation. A large consignment of snuff was confiscated.
