According to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), senior journalist Matiullah Jan has gone missing from Islamabad and this has been confirmed by his family.
On the other hand, in a conversation with the Urdu service of the British newspaper The Independent, the wife of the journalist also confirmed that her husband is missing.
He said that Matiullah Jan had dropped him off at school in the morning after which his car was found and the key in the car was also found.
It may be recalled that a contempt of court notice is pending in the Supreme Court on a controversial tweet against Matiullah Jan, which will be heard this week.
Earlier in the day, at 11:05 a.m., he retweeted a journalist's interview, saying, I sit and those who think that criticism is a greater crime than violating the invincible dignity of man.
As the news caught the attention of journalists and international organizations, Matiullah Jan's Twitter account was tweeted at 3:17 a.m., possibly by his son.
"My father was abducted in the middle of the capital (Islamabad). I demand to find him and take action against those responsible for his disappearance. May God protect him," the tweet said.
According to reports, Matiullah Jan's car was parked outside the school in Sector G6 of Islamabad and he also had a mobile phone in it.
After receiving the information, the personnel of Aabpara police station reached the spot. Superintendent of Police (SP) Umar Khan and other police officers were also present on the spot.
In this regard, Station House Officer (SHO) Shaukat Mahmood said that Matiullah's wife has not applied yet, they are trying to get CCTV recordings of the car parked outside the school.
Amnesty International, meanwhile, called on authorities to "immediately obtain information about the journalist's whereabouts."
In a tweet, the group said it was "deeply concerned" about the well-being of a journalist who, according to Amnesty International, had been "physically assaulted and harassed by the press."
Meanwhile, anchor person Najam Sethi launched a petition on Change.org for the "immediate release" of Matiullah Jan.
Reports of his disappearance went viral on social media and became a top trend on Twitter, demanding his return and "release".
