Afghanistan: A bomb blast killed six people, including women and children

A roadside bomb has exploded in Afghanistan's eastern province, killing six civilians, including women and children.

A spokesman for the governor of Ghazni province, Waheedullah, said a vehicle carrying passengers was heading to its destination in Jagato district when it collided with a roadside bomb, injuring eight civilians.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, according to the Associated Press.

A Taliban attack in the same province yesterday targeted a police chief and two of his bodyguards in Diak District with a roadside bomb.

The attack took place while inspecting an Afghan check post.

The Defense Ministry also said that Afghan troops repulsed Taliban attacks on military posts in the Azra district of eastern Logar Province on Friday.

The attack killed at least eight Taliban and wounded four others, the statement said.

The Taliban, on the other hand, accused Afghan soldiers of targeting their homes and families.

In this regard, Kabul accused the Taliban of intensifying attacks on civilians and security forces.

It should be noted that after almost 19 years of fighting the Taliban, the United States is considering ways to achieve peace between Afghanistan, the US-backed government and the militant group occupying various parts of the country.

An agreement was reached between the United States and the Taliban on February 29 this year, which called for the withdrawal of US troops.

US officials and NATO said in late May that the number of US troops in Afghanistan was closer to 8,600 than previously agreed with the Taliban due to the spread of the corona virus.

Remember that since the signing of the agreement, the Taliban have been claiming victory over the United States.

Under the agreement, if the Taliban provide security guarantees and negotiate with Kabul, foreign forces will withdraw from Afghanistan in 14 months.

While supporters of the deal say it is a first step toward peace, many Afghans fear it could bring the Taliban back to power.

It should be noted that from 1996 to 2001, the Taliban ruled most of Afghanistan.
