Turkish forces have been advancing for military action
against the separatists in Syria, but an American military checkpoint was also
mistakenly hit in the meantime.
According to the International News Agency, on the third day
of the Turkish military action against the Kurds in Syria, the hostilities
continued.
A US military spokesman deployed to Syria said in a
statement that a US military outpost also came under attack by the Turkish
army, but the US military did not have any casualties as a result of the
shelling. According to the Pentagon, the Turkish army has also been alerted to
the incident.
Turkish forces, on the other hand, have rejected the US
claim that the US checkpoint was not their target during the Syrian offensive,
but that the shelling was carried out on a military target of Kurdish fighters
near the US outpost, where the Kurds were killed yesterday. The militants fired
missiles at a Turkish police station.
The Turkish Foreign Minister had approached the Pentagon,
citing the seriousness of the issue, and called for further strengthening of
relations between the two countries so that such incidents could not take place
and a confidence-building relationship was in place.
It should be noted that the Turkish President had demanded
the withdrawal of US troops from Syria and the Turkish border in a telephonic
conversation with the US President before the military operation in the
Kurdish-dominated area in Syria, on which the US did not obstruct the Turkish
