Drought rates have risen 29 percent in the last 20 years, according to the United Nations


The United Nations has made a disturbing revelation in its report that the incidence of global drought has not only increased by 29% since 2000, but its duration has also become longer and longer.

In a report released on Wednesday, the United Nations said that despite humanitarian intervention, climate change, although 2.3 billion people are suffering from severe water shortages, drought and famine in Africa and other regions. Tragedies have risen sharply.

The report has been dubbed 'Humanity at the Crossroads' and has been dubbed as 'Draft in Numbers'. The report, presented at 6 a.m. Pakistan time on Wednesday, May 11, said that drought and water scarcity were affecting the poorest and developing countries the most.

The number of poor people who died due to drought from 1970 to 2019 is said to be 6.5 million. By 2022, more than two billion people are still suffering from water shortages. By 2030, another 700 million people will be caught in the grip of drought.

On the other hand, due to the drought, the amount of water for livestock and agriculture is decreasing day by day and thus the scope of food is also shrinking. Affected regions include Africa at the top, followed by India, Latin America and Australia. In the last century, 134 cases of drought have been recorded in Africa which have destroyed the cycle of life.

According to the report, the drought has caused a 5% decline in agricultural production even in a developed country like Australia which is a terrible situation. In this context, the situation in other poor countries is even worse.
