Israeli police raid Al-Aqsa Mosque, injuring 42 Palestinians

At least 42 people were injured in an Israeli police operation against Palestinians at the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Friday.

The attack took place on the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, according to the foreign news agency AFP.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said in a statement that 22 of those injured in the Israeli police operation had been taken to hospital, but that no one had been seriously injured.

Israeli police claim that forces entered the mosque compound after "miscreants" pelted the Jewish holy site near Al-Aqsa Mosque with stones and fireworks.

The statement said that the officers took action to control the unrest. Eyewitnesses and AFP reporters said police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at the crowd.

Police say two people have been arrested for throwing stones and one for inciting a mob.

He said there had been silence in the area for the past hour and Muslims were entering the compound safely for worship.

However, tensions remain high in the center of the Old City of Jerusalem, which is part of Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem.

Tensions in the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound have injured about 300 Palestinians in the past two weeks. Al-Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest site in Islam, which the Jews call 'Temple Mount'.

Israel's aggression on the site during Ramadan has caused global concern, but the Jewish state has insisted it has been forced to take action against Hamas and Islamic Jihad operatives who have been wreaking havoc throughout Jerusalem.

In an apparent effort to reduce tensions, Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid stressed that the government was committed to implementing the convention on the grounds of Al-Aqsa Mosque, where only Muslims are allowed to pray and Jews are allowed. You are allowed to visit Temple Mount.

However, Muslim leaders have expressed outrage at the recent increase in such visits, and some have expressed concern that Israel is trying to divide the compound and make it a place where Jews can worship. Yair Lapid denied the allegations and told reporters that there was no such plan.

Violence in Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem has raised fears of another armed conflict that lasted 11 days between Israel and Hamas last year.

Recent weeks have seen rocket fire from Gaza into Israel and Israeli retaliation, but no casualties have been reported from either side.

Tensions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque began on March 22 in the wake of violence in Israel and the occupied West Bank.

Four separate attacks inside Israel killed 12 Israelis and two Ukrainians, including an Arab Israeli police officer. Two of the deadliest attacks were carried out by Palestinians in the Tel Aviv area.

Meanwhile, 26 Palestinians and three Israeli Arabs have been killed, including the attackers and those killed by Israeli forces.

Former Prime Minister and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has expressed solidarity with the Palestinians on the Israeli aggression.

In his message on the occasion of Al-Quds Day (the day of protest against the establishment of Israel and the occupation of Jerusalem), Imran Khan pointed out that every Ramadan, Muslims face reprehensible attacks by Israeli forces on Al-Aqsa Mosque.
