A disease called leishmaniasis is spreading rapidly in Dadu, Sindh, which has so far affected 2,400 people. In this article we will talk about how this disease is spread and how it is possible to prevent leishmaniasis.

What is leishmaniasis?

Leishmaniasis is a skin disease that is spread by the bite of a special type of bee, the "sandfly." In addition to rashes and itching on the body, the bite of this bee can cause fever, weakness, nose bleed and difficulty in breathing and various infections and diseases. There are several types of leishmaniasis and doctors prescribe treatment for them.

There is no vaccine to prevent it

The sand fly is a very small fly. It is smaller than a mosquito so it is difficult to see. There is currently no vaccine to prevent leishmaniasis, so only precautionary measures can be taken to prevent it.

Precautionary measures

Sandflies do not have the power to fly at high altitudes, so choose high beds and couches. Avoid sleeping on the floor or mattress.

Keep all windows, doors, ducts closed. Also, don't rely on nets as sandflies can come from small holes.

Keep the walls of the room and house completely closed and keep spraying pesticides on the curtains etc.

Wear full sleeves. It is important to cover the body in the affected areas.

Avoid going out in the morning and evening as sandflies are very active during this time.

Staying in the air conditioning can also be beneficial. Also, if possible, keep the fan running as it makes it difficult for the bees to fly.

Use a mosquito net for sleeping and spray pesticides regularly in the bedroom.
