Britain and Germany announce sanctions on Russia over Ukraine conflict

Britain has begun imposing sanctions on Russia after President Vladimir Putin announced that Ukraine's two provinces would be recognized as independent states and send troops there.

According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced the freezing of the assets of three billionaire Russian businessmen, Gnadey Tamshenko, Boris Rottenberg and Ego Rotenberg.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has banned the three businessmen from entering the UK, while barring British citizens and companies from dealing with them.

In addition, the British Prime Minister has banned 5 banks after which British citizens and companies will not be able to transact with these banks.

The British prime minister says this is the beginning of sanctions and that more sanctions could be imposed, but that efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict will continue until the last minute.

On the other hand, Germany has also announced that it is considering suspending the Nordstream 2 gas pipeline project worth more than $11.5 billion. The pipeline covers 1,230 km and can deliver 150 million cubic meters of gas a day.

The United States and the European Union are expected to announce sanctions on Russia in a few hours. Earlier, in his address to the nation, the President of Ukraine had asked for help from Western countries against Russia and said that now it will be known who is our friend.

It should be noted that the sanctions imposed on Russia by Western countries were announced after President Vladimir Putin recognized the two provinces of eastern Ukraine as independent states and sent his troops to these areas.
