Fighting between Kurdish officials and ISIS has been going on for four days since Thursday's attack on a Kurdish-run prison, in which more than 120 people have been killed so far, including seven civilians.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, more than 100 ISIS activists stormed a prison to free their captive fighters. There were 3,500 ISIS workers in the prison. It is said to be the largest organized operation by ISIS since the end of the self-proclaimed Islamic caliphate in Syria three years ago.
The militants also seized weapons during the raid. US-backed Kurdish forces have been active in targeting ISIS strongholds, killing 77 ISIS operatives and 39 Kurdish officials in clashes across the country.
An AFP correspondent near the scene said fierce clashes were heard, after which Kurdish forces ordered the immediate evacuation of locals through loudspeakers.
