An Israeli newspaper, Calculist, has claimed that Israeli police have started cyber-espionage of their own citizens with the controversial Pegasus spyware.
Following the revelations, the Israeli government has launched an investigation into the local police, and in a letter to Kobe Shabtai, Israel's attorney general, Owaisi Mendelssohn, ordered that between 2020 and 2021, wiretapping and Submit all cyber espionage records.
The newspaper described the Israeli police's move as a threat to democracy, but did not say what its sources said.
It should be noted that Israeli security agencies have the legal authority to monitor any citizen.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Israeli Ministry of Justice demanded that Israeli security agencies use Pegasus spyware to investigate allegations of cyber espionage by citizens who had protested against former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
It should be noted that Pegasus spyware has been developed by the Israeli company 'NSO', the apparent purpose of which is to constantly monitor a person through a mobile phone.
This software can be secretly installed on a mobile phone to record all its activities including phone calls which this spyware immediately sends to a server.
