UAE lifts cinema censorship


 
Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates has decided to end censorship by easing the rules for showing movies in cinemas, for which a 21+ rating has been introduced.

The media regulatory authority of the United Arab Emirates has announced on Twitter that the age rating for screening movies in cinemas has been fixed at 21+, after which the international version of movies over 21 years of age will be released in cinemas. Will be able to watch movies accordingly.

Previously, cinemas in the United Arab Emirates had to undergo strict censorship for screenings, and films with adult content were censored or edited due to the ban on showing films under the international version.

It should be noted that the UAE is considered to be the most liberal country in the Gulf countries and in recent years the state has been constantly amending its laws to bring more innovation.

Last year, the UAE eased restrictions on alcohol consumption, including a ban on unmarried couples living together and a ban on having children out of wedlock as part of a "social liberalization" campaign.

In addition, earlier this month, Western-style weekly holidays were announced on Saturdays and Sundays instead of Fridays, and Friday was declared Muslim Day.

It should be noted that 90% of the population of 10 million in the UAE are foreign nationals who are mostly residing for jobs and business.
