A statement issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that the organization's request for Christmas was rejected because it failed to meet the requirements for foreign funding under the law.

The Missionaries of Charity registration was originally scheduled for October 31, but was extended to December 31. However, it was recently requested for further extension.
In this regard, the Ministry said that the State Bank of India has claimed that the Ministry of Charities itself had requested the State Bank to freeze the account.
The ministry has directed all its agencies across the country not to use any account of foreign funds till the issue is resolved.
Contrary to the central bank's claim, however, Congressman Derek O'Brien accused the Indian government in its tweet of pressuring the central bank to avoid further losses.
The Foreign Ministry's statement came as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed that the central government had frozen the Christian organisation's bank accounts.
