Discover a pair of black holes closest to Earth

A new pair of supermassive black holes has been discovered that is by far the closest pair of black holes to Earth.

Astronomers at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) have discovered a pair of the closest black holes to date, just 89 million light-years from Earth, the previous record of 470 million light-years. Competition is a pair of black holes closest to Earth.

On Tuesday, the ESO released images of its new discovery, taken using a very large telescope, called the Very Large Telescope (VLT). In addition to being the closest ever to Earth, the pair of black holes are also the closest pair to each other at a distance of 1600 light years.

According to the ESO, they are on the verge of collision and will collide with each other. Holger Boomegard, a professor at the University of Queensland, said in an ESO press release that the short distance between him and his speed indicates that he might merge into a single large black hole over the next 250 million years. will go. Supermassive black holes are the largest type of black hole and their mass can be millions or billions of times greater than the Sun.
