An eyewitness to the helicopter crash in which Indian Army Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) Bipin Rawat was killed described the incident.

According to the BBC, 60-year-old Krishna Swamy, who lived nearby at the time of the accident, had gone out to collect firewood for his house. According to Krishna Swamy, he heard a loud explosion. It was so severe that it uprooted trees and spread smoke all over the area.

According to Krishna Swamy, when he reached the spot, he saw a tree and a helicopter on fire. He saw a man burning and then he fell down. An eyewitness said that after that he ran away and came to the village and started telling the people to call the police and fire brigade. "After a while the officers came. I didn't see the body being taken away. I was shocked and came home and lay down."

A military helicopter carrying 14 people, including CDS Bipin Rawat and his wife, crashed in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. Thirteen people were killed in the accident while the group captain was rescued in critical condition and is undergoing treatment.
