Many Syrian refugees in Turkey are facing deportation for posting a banana-eating video on social media.
Al Jazeera reports that the men will be deported from Turkey on charges of "provoking" the banana-eating video and "inciting hatred" between locals and refugees.
The Turkish News Agency reported that eight refugees, including a child from Syria, had been detained in the western city of Izmir.
Turkish immigration officials said in a statement earlier this week that the process of deporting seven more foreigners would begin this week.
Videos of Syrian refugees in Turkey eating bananas began appearing on social media on October 17, during which a media outlet recorded a conversation between a Syrian woman and a Turkish group on a street in Istanbul.
In the video, a middle-aged man can be heard complaining that you are living comfortably, I can't eat a banana, you are buying dozens of bananas.
Similarly, a woman criticized the Syrian refugees, saying that they are not fighting in their own country but go back for religious rites.
A video was released on TikTok in which a group of youths were seen laughing and responding while an interview in a shop was seen eating bananas while running in the background.
A statement from Turkey's Directorate General of Migration Management said, "Various methods are being used to expose provocative posts and necessary legal and administrative action is being taken against all those who post them."
The statement said the deportation of all seven foreigners would begin after they meet legal requirements, but did not say where they were being held.
Istanbul police say 11 Syrians have been arrested on charges of inciting hatred and insulting Turkish citizens.
It is believed that Turkey is hosting the largest number of refugees in the world and there are about 3.6 million people in Turkey on a temporary basis, most of whom were welcomed in Turkey after the conflict in Syria began in 2011.
However, due to the economic difficulties in Turkey, there is anger among the citizens and therefore there was a strong reaction.
