Rare sawfish caught in fishermen's nets on Pakistan-Iran maritime border
According to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Pakistan), on October 29, fishermen on the shores of Giovanni reported a rare species of ara fish in a net.
According to experts, the ara fish is a rare aquatic life and its species has been in danger of extinction for many years.
The discovery of the fish reflects the fact that this rare fish is still found in Pakistani seas, said Moazzam Khan, a technical adviser to the WWF.
"Steps need to be taken for the survival of this rare species of fish," he said.
According to the World Wide Fund for Nature, in the 70's and 80's, 3 species of ara fish were found in abundance in Pakistan and they were also exported.
However, experts say that the use of plastic nets since the 1950s has led to the extinction of the Ara fish, including other rare aquatic life.
He added that in the last 10 years, only three pieces of evidence have come to light about the presence of this rare fish.
Earlier in 2013, fishermen on the creek of the Indus River reported being caught in a fishing net.
Under international law, the governments of Sindh and Balochistan imposed a complete ban on aquaculture and trade in 2016.
The ara fish or safash is also called carpenter or carpenter fish, this fish is a different kind of shark.
