Syrian officials say rockets were fired by Israel on the outskirts of Damascus, injuring two soldiers.
Syrian state media quoted unnamed military officials as saying that the Syrian air force responded to missiles fired from Israel, but two soldiers were wounded, according to the Associated Press.
The state news agency quoted military officials as saying that Air Defense successfully shot down several missiles coming from northern Israel, but caused damage.
According to the report, such attacks on Syria by Israel are often carried out at night, but military officials said that the attack took place in the afternoon.
The British Human Rights Watch and the Syrian Opposition's War Crimes Investigation Agency said Israeli missiles landed northwest of Damascus.
He said the Lebanese group Hezbollah had weapons depots in the area, as well as Syrian military installations and Iranian-backed militias.
Prior to the latest Israeli attack, Syria had claimed that Israel was carrying out attacks in the southern part of the country, but did not release details.
It should be noted that Israel has carried out similar attacks on various parts of Syria before, but Israel accepts little responsibility.
Israel claims to be targeting Iranian-backed militia strongholds, including the Lebanese stronghold of Hezbollah.
Hezbollah, on the other hand, is supporting President Bashar al-Assad's forces fighting a civil war in Syria.
In November 2019, Israeli warplanes bombed Syria, killing 23 people.
The Israeli military confirmed the attack, saying it had carried out dozens of airstrikes on Iranian forces and the Syrian army in response to four rocket attacks on Israel the previous day.
"Overnight, we have targeted Iranian Al-Quds Force and Syrian military targets, including warehouses and military command centers," he said.
A military spokesman said: "The most important target was the targeting of control installations near Damascus' main international airport, the building used by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards to transport equipment from Iran to Syria and beyond.
