Catastrophic rains kill 31 in India

The death toll from ongoing rains in several Indian states has risen to 31.

In Andhra Pradesh, 31 people have been killed in flash floods caused by rains. The state's rail system and roads have been closed, cutting it off from other parts of the country.

Heavy rains are also continuing in the state of Kerala due to which pilgrims going to Pamba and Sabarimala have been stopped. Officials say the water level in the Pamba River is rising rapidly, prompting a red alert for the Kiki Anathode Reservoir and the Pamba Dam.

Heavy rains have also lashed the states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, disrupting daily life.
