The Caribbean nation of Barbados has been liberated from British rule after 400 years, with the country's last governor general, Dame Sandra Mason, taking the oath of office as the country's first president.
Last night, Barbados seceded from the Commonwealth and declared itself an independent country.
During the ceremony last night, the British royal flag representing the Queen was lowered.
Britain's Prince Charles also took part in the ceremony. Last month, Barbados passed a resolution replacing Queen Dame Sandramason as President of the United Kingdom.
Remember that the Caribbean island has got rid of its colonial past after almost 400 years.
The Caribbean island, formerly the crown prince of the United Kingdom, is now becoming an independent democracy. ۔
Following Barbados 'doing so, it is now feared that, following in Barbados' footsteps, Australia and Canada may soon consider severing ties with the Queen and becoming independent democracies.
It is said that this pressure is now likely to be felt in Australia and to some extent in Canada.
Australia had voted on the issue in November 1999, but the proposal was not approved by a large majority at the time.
It should be noted that even after the independence of Barbados, the Queen is the head of 15 other states, including Australia, Canada and Jamaica.
