Two Iranians have died after drinking sanitizer in a Sri Lankan prison, while 10 other Iranian prisoners have been hospitalized for medical treatment.
According to details, a sensational incident took place in Colombo Remand Jail in Sri Lanka on Wednesday night. Two Iranian prisoners committed suicide by drinking hand sanitizer. Ten other Iranians who drank sanitizer were taken to hospital for treatment.
Prison spokeswoman Chandna Eknaike said the inmates were provided with sanitizer by the Iranian embassy in view of Covid 19.
He said the detainees had been arrested on charges of heroin trafficking, and were in jail on drug remand.
Twelve inmates were taken to hospital on Wednesday night, but two of them died at the hospital, while the rest were in critical condition.
