The last Jew left Afghanistan

Zebulun Cemento, the last member of Afghanistan's Jewish community, also left the country. Zebulun Cemento, the last Afghan Jew living in Synagogue, Kabul, strictly forbade Jewish food and worshiped in Hebrew.

Afghanistan's Jewish population declined sharply during Afghanistan's long civil war. In August 2021, the Taliban took control of the last Jew to leave the country. Moti Kahana, an Israeli-American businessman, helped Zebulun Cemento get out of Afghanistan.

Moti Kahana told the news agency that 62-year-old Zebulun Cemento and 29 of his neighbors, including all women and children, had been relocated to the neighboring country.

He said Zebulun Cemento, who lived in Afghanistan during the first Taliban era, did not care about the Taliban and was warned that he was in danger of being killed or abducted by ISIS.

Zebulun Cemento's neighbors also urged her to leave the country so that her children could leave the country with her on the bus. Israeli state broadcaster broadcast footage of Zebulun Cemento's evacuation in which he was traveling in a packed bus. Except for Zebulun Cemento, everyone's faces are glowing with joy.

Moti Kahana said her group is working with Israeli and US officials to arrange a permanent residence for Cemento, whose angry wife and children live in Israel, to which Cemento has not divorced under Jewish law. As a result, they may face legal issues in Israel.
