Dangerous hurricane threat, alert issued in Shanghai

 



Hurricane Chantho, which wreaked havoc in the Philippines and Taiwan, has headed for Shanghai.

According to media reports, the storm is likely to hit the coast of Shanghai by this evening. The storm caused rain with strong winds in the city while the waves in the sea are rising up to eight meters.

Several flights from Shanghai have been canceled due to the storm, schools have been closed and trains have been completely shut down, while authorities have evacuated 28,000 people in the wake of an unfortunate incident.

The city administration of Shanghai has also instructed citizens in suburban areas to stop outdoor activities in view of the storm.

Earlier, Typhoon Chantho hit the northeastern coast of Japan, wreaking havoc on coastal areas.

Hurricane Chantho uprooted trees on islands in the northern Philippines due to strong winds and rain, officials said, affecting 11,000 people.
