The Taliban publicly hanged the bodies of four people involved in the abduction in the western Afghan city of Herat.
Herat Deputy Governor Maulvi Sher Ahmad Mohajer said the bodies of the four men were hung from a crane in different areas on the same day to teach a lesson that kidnapping was not tolerated, according to AFP.
Graphic images posted on social media showed bloody bodies behind a pickup truck while a crane carried a man.
Crowds watched the scene and armed Taliban fighters gathered around the vehicle.
Another video shows a man hanging from a crane at a major intersection in Herat, and a sign on his chest reads that the kidnappers would be punished in this way.
Many squares in the city have been punished since the Taliban came to power last month, but this was the most serious of them all and a sign that the Taliban, like their previous regime from 1996 to 2001, this time We will also take strict measures.
Security forces were told that a businessman and his son had been abducted from the city on Saturday morning, Sher Ahmad Mohajer said.
Police closed roads outside the city and the Taliban stopped the kidnappers at a checkpoint where the suspects and the Taliban exchanged fire, he said.
"A few minutes of fighting left one of our officers wounded and all four kidnappers killed," Sher Ahmed Mohajer said in a recorded statement sent to AFP.
He said that we are the Islamic Emirate, no one should harm our nation and no one should kidnap anyone.
He said there had been several kidnappings in the city before Saturday's incident and that the Taliban had rescued a boy in those incidents.
He said one kidnapper was killed and three others were arrested in the operations, but in another such case, the Taliban failed and the kidnappers fled with the money.
"It saddened us because our people were being kidnapped when we were in Herat," Sher Ahmad Mohajer said.
"We did this to teach the other kidnappers a lesson not to kidnap or harass anyone. We hung them in the city squares and made it clear to everyone that whatever was stolen, kidnapped or Anyone who takes action against our people will be punished.
