A pilot who fled like other Afghan Air Force pilots after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan handed over an American Black Hawk helicopter to the Taliban.
The Twitter handle of the Islamic Emirates of Afghanistan confirmed on September 1 that a pilot named Idris Momand had flown a helicopter to Kunar Province after Kabul's independence.
The tweet said that the pilot had taken him to Kunar province for the safety of the helicopter but now Idrees Momand has handed him over safely to the Taliban in Kabul.
The tweet did not specify whether a reward had been announced for the pilot who carried the valuable American Black Hawk helicopter and now returned it safely to the Taliban, or whether any action had been taken against him.
However, Idris Momand's move to return the valuable helicopter to the Taliban is being praised.
Regarding the helicopter being taken and returned to the Taliban, Naqibullah Himmat, a former commander and pilot, told the BBC that Idris Momand had not escaped but had taken refuge to save the helicopter from damage. Were gone
According to him, the Wali of Kunar cooperated with Idrees Momand and provided him with security personnel, including providing the pilot 1.5 million afghanis for the safe return of the helicopter. Former Afghan commander and pilot Naqibullah Himmat said most Afghan pilots, including Black Hawk helicopters, have flown other fighter jets to Uzbekistan since the Taliban took control.
According to him, before the Taliban took control, the Afghan army had 183 other fighter jets, including the Black Hawk, of which 46 planes and helicopters had been flown to Uzbekistan by Afghan pilots.
The Afghan army also had about 7,000 pilots, but the Afghan Air Force is currently inactive due to the withdrawal of troops after Taliban control, he said.
The Taliban took control of the Afghan capital, Kabul, and the presidential palace on August 15, 2021, before seizing several provinces.
By the morning of August 31, 2021, after the complete control of the Taliban, the withdrawal of troops and personnel from other countries, including the United States, had been completed, but a clear government had not yet been formed in Afghanistan.
After the Taliban took control of Kabul, they announced the establishment of the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan on August 19 and said that the country would be governed by a sharia system, not a democracy.
The United States invaded Afghanistan 20 years ago, on October 7, 2001, exactly one month after the September 11 attacks, and has now withdrawn two decades later.
