The Afghan Taliban took control of the presidential palace after entering Kabul.
Reuters quoted two Taliban commanders as claiming that Taliban fighters had taken over the presidential palace. By the time the Taliban arrived, government staff and government officials had left the palace. The development comes at a time when the Taliban have begun entering the city to restore law and order after police and army fled Kabul's urban districts. Earlier in the morning, the Taliban had been present outside Kabul. It was also clear that President Ashraf Ghani, Vice President Amrullah Saleh and other senior officials had fled Kabul and fled to neighboring Tajikistan.
