Achieving an Olympic gold medal is the biggest dream for athletes around the world. Gold, silver and bronze medals are very similar to previous games, but each host city does something unique to make the medals look different from other sports.

This time too it has happened. All medals have certain symbols. According to the International Olympic Committee, the medal bears the image of Nike, the goddess of success in ancient Greece, with five Olympic circles and the official name of the Games.

"XXXII Olympiad Tokyo 2020" This time the games have been named "Olympiad Tokyo" which will be listed on these medals.

This year's unique element is the reflection of the theme on the medals called Light and Brilliance which means the raw stones that have now been polished.

According to the International Olympic Committee, the pattern of light in the medal represents the energy of an athlete and those who support him, while Brilliance represents the warmth of friendship. The name of the sport for which the medal is made is also engraved on one end.

These medals have a ribbon or ribbon designed to reflect Japan, while the winners are also given unique wooden medal cases and each case is unique.

What is the size of the medals? And who designed it?

The diameter of the medal is 3.35, the thinnest part of the medal is 7.7 mm long while the thickest part is 12.1 mm long, the gold medal weighs 556 grams, the silver 550 grams and the bronze 450 grams.

The medals were designed by Jeonshi Kawanishi, director of the Japan Sign Design Association and Osaka Design Society, who won the award by beating more than 400 professional designers and design students.

The silver medal is made of pure silver, while the bronze medal uses 95% copper and 5% zinc. To this end, the Tokyo 2020 Medal Project was launched in April 2017 and continued until March 2019, during which the medals were developed.

More than 78 tonnes of old smartphones, laptops and other electronic devices were collected for the acquisition of metals, from which more than 32 kg of gold, about 3,500 kg of silver and 2,200 kg of bronze were recovered.
