A drone strike on the US embassy in Baghdad has been confirmed by Iraqi security officials.
The drone was loaded with explosives after a rocket attack on a military base in western Iraq, where US troops were reportedly present.
French news agency correspondents spotted missiles fired by the US air defense system in Baghdad's airspace last night, and Iraqi officials confirmed that the missiles had hit the drone.
Security sources told Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath news channels that US forces shot down one drone and took off two others, both of whom landed in the green zone. According to Iraqi media, sirens were sounded in the Green Zone of Baghdad during the operation.
The U.S. administration has accused Tehran-backed militias of targeting U.S. bases in Iraq and Baghdad's Green Zone.
