Senior journalist and anchor person Hamid Mir apologized for his speech at the journalists' protest.
A delegation from Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) and National Press Club Islamabad met Hamid Mir and discussed the statement to be issued on May 28.
Hamid Mir issued an explanatory statement from the RIUJ platform in which he said, "We condemn the increasing attacks on journalists during the PFUJ demonstration outside the National Press Club Islamabad on May 28 last week. It was regrettable that these attacks, including the one against me, were not being taken seriously. A few journalists made some harsh speeches on the occasion. I am well aware of the misconception created by my speech. There is a feeling and I want to make it clear without any pressure, under my conscience, sense of responsibility and prevailing journalistic values that I did not name any person in my speech and there is no fight with my army, I am the army. As an institution, I respect that. I have closely watched the sacrifices of the military brothers from Siachen to the Line of Control and from FATA to Balochistan, and I am proud of their coverage. "
Hamid Mir added in his statement that "my intention was not to hurt anyone's feelings and emotions but I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by my words. At the same time I would appeal to the government." "Attacks on journalists should be stopped and those responsible for these attacks should be arrested and brought to justice. Legislation should be sent to parliament as soon as possible to protect journalists."
