'Giving US bases could make Pakistan a target for terrorists again'

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that if Pakistan is ready to host US bases for operations in Afghanistan, it could again become a target of revenge for terrorists if civil war breaks out.

In an article in a US newspaper, the prime minister said: "We can't afford it. We've already paid a heavy price. If the US still can't win the war in Afghanistan with the most powerful military machine in history 20 years later How can America do this from the bases of our country?

"Pakistan was ready to partner with the United States for peace in Afghanistan, but with the withdrawal of US forces, we will avoid the risk of further conflict," he said.

The Prime Minister wrote that Pakistan and the United States have "common interests in this long-troubled country, ie political settlement, stability, economic development and not allowing terrorists to become a haven."

"We will oppose any military occupation of Afghanistan, which will only result in decades of civil war because the Taliban cannot conquer the whole country and join a government to succeed.

"In the past, Pakistan made a mistake by choosing between the warring Afghan factions, but the country has learned from this experience. We have no favorites and we will work with any government that the Afghan people want," he said. Trust me, history has shown that Afghanistan cannot be controlled from the outside.

Highlighting how Pakistan was affected by the wars in Afghanistan, the Prime Minister said that more than 70,000 Pakistanis were killed, the United States provided 20 20 billion in aid and the Pakistani economy lost more than 150 billion. Tourism and investment are gone.

"After joining the US effort, Pakistan was targeted as a partner, which resulted in terrorism against our country by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant groups," he said.

The US drone strikes, which I warned against, did not win the war but created hatred for the United States and increased the ranks of terrorists against both countries.

He wrote that the United States had pressured Pakistan to send troops to semi-autonomous areas along the Afghan border for the first time, in the misconception that it would end the insurgency.

Continuing to write, he said that this did not happen but it displaced half the population of the tribal districts, displaced one million people in North Waziristan alone, caused billions of dollars in losses and destroyed villages.

He said that as a result of collateral damage of civilians, suicide attacks were carried out against the Pakistani army and more Pakistani soldiers were martyred than the number of American soldiers killed in both Iraq and Afghanistan while more terrorist groups raised their heads against us. 500 policemen killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The Prime Minister said that if there was more civil war in Afghanistan instead of political settlement, the number of refugees in Pakistan would increase and the border areas would become more vulnerable.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the interests of the United States and Pakistan are the same in Afghanistan.

"We want peace through dialogue, not civil war. We need stability and an end to terrorism against both countries. We support agreements that secure the development benefits of Afghanistan over the past two decades," he wrote. Well, we want economic growth, increased trade, and connectivity in Central Asia so that our economy will rise and if there is more civil war we will go down.

"That's why we did a lot of diplomacy with the United States and then with the Afghan government to bring the Taliban to the negotiating table. We know that if the Taliban tried to declare a military victory, it would The result will be bloodshed.

"We hope that the Afghan government will also show more flexibility in the negotiations and stop blaming Pakistan because we are doing everything we can to protect ourselves from military action," d.

That is why it became part of a joint statement by Pakistan, Russia, China and the United States stating that if an attempt was made to impose a government on Kabul, all four countries would oppose it,.

He added that in the joint statement, Afghanistan's four neighbors and allies shared for the first time in one voice what a political settlement should look like, which could lead to a new regional agreement for peace and development in the region. This includes working with the Afghan government to address emerging terrorist threats and sharing intelligence.

The Prime Minister said that Afghanistan's neighbors will promise not to allow their territory to be used against Afghanistan or any other country and Afghanistan itself will make the same promise.

At the end of the article, he wrote that the development of economic ties and regional trade is important for long-term peace and security in Afghanistan and that further military action would be futile.

"If we take up this responsibility,"

And Afghanistan, known for its 'Great Game' and local animosities, could serve as a model for regional cooperation.
