Mahatma Gandhi's great-granddaughter Ashish Lata Ramgobin has been sentenced by a Durban court to seven years in prison for fraud and forgery of 6 million African rand in South Africa. The businessman took an advance of Rs 6.2 million from SR Maharaj but later refused to pay both the goods and the money.
According to details, the trial against Gandhi's great-granddaughter began in 2015. The prosecutor told the court that Lata had given fake receipts and documents to convince investors that three containers of cloth were being sent from India. At the time, Lataramgubin's bail was accepted in exchange for 50,000 African rand.
The court was told yesterday that Lata Ram Gobin met Trader Maharaj in 2015, whose company imported clothes and manufactured goods, while also investing in other companies on a profit-sharing basis. Lata Ramgobin told the Maharaja that she had imported three containers of Lenin from India and needed funds for customs clearance and other expenses. Lata Ramgobin showed the documents related to the goods she had bought. Provided proof of net care company's invoice and delivery of goods. Ram Gobin then gave proof of confirmation of the payment of Netcare's bank account on the basis of which the Maharaja agreed to pay him.
According to the prosecutor, Maharaj later found out that all the documents were fake and that Netcare had no business relationship with Lata Ram Gobin, so he filed a lawsuit. Sentenced to 7 years in prison
