One hundred and twenty-one years ago, a chocolate bar sent by the Queen to a soldier fighting in South Africa was found in the same condition.
According to media reports, the chocolate was sent to Sir Henry Edward Paston, a soldier who fought in the Boer War, and was found in his helmet. According to the Heritage Institute, the Victoria's handwritten message is accompanied by a metal box of chocolates, saying, "I wish you a Happy New Year."
The box bears the words "South Africa 1900" and a picture of the Queen. The National Trust says Henry kept the helmet and chocolate as a war memorial.
