The Corona crisis has worsened the situation in India, people have refused to attend the last rites for fear of Corona, ambulances, rickshaw drivers and transporters have refused to move the bodies, the bodies began to be transported on bicycles and motorcycles.
A large number of people are hiring people to shoulder the corpses of their loved ones and relatives, in a situation where Muslim volunteers have come forward across the country to help people free of charge and perform the last rites.
In Janpur, Uttar Pradesh, an elderly man kept his wife's body on a bicycle for several hours in search of a crematorium. The deceased fell off the bicycle but no one from the village came to his aid for fear of Corona.
A photo went viral on social media showing the deceased lying on a bicycle. After the post went viral, the police helped the deceased to be taken to the crematorium for the last rites.
Another such inhumane incident took place in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. A son along with a relative transported the body of his deceased mother from Corona on a motorcycle.
According to Indian media, no one including ambulance and rickshaw drivers agreed to transfer the body for fear of Corona. After waiting for several hours, the woman's sons Narendra and son-in-law Ramesh transferred the body on a motorcycle.
The 50-year-old woman was rushed to a hospital where she underwent a CT scan. She died at the scene, but the doctor said she had symptoms of corona.
The situation has become so bad that no man can be found to perform the last rites, due to which the women of the house have to give a 'face fire' to their father or husband (the women themselves are setting fire to the pyre.) According to Hindu rites, the corpse is usually set on fire by a man.
Even in such a situation, Muslim volunteers have come forward. According to the German News website, relatives from several cities across the country are not ready to help carry the bodies of those who died in Corona to the crematorium and perform their last rites. There have been constant reports of Muslim youth volunteering for the service.
Muslims are doing this both collectively and individually and their services are being appreciated. Muhammad Siraj is one of those people who performed the last rites of his friend and Allahabad High Court Joint Registrar Ham Singh. To do so, they traveled four hundred kilometers and reached their village.
Hem Singh's relatives forbade him to attend the last rites. In Madhya Pradesh, two Muslim youths have so far assisted in the last rites of hundreds of dead. A Muslim organization in Tamil Nadu is doing this on a large scale.
Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, the organisation's secretary, says, "Last year, when some people returned from the Tablighi Jamaat center in Delhi, Muslims were portrayed as spreading the virus."
We were heartbroken because we were treated like criminals. But we did not protest and decided to respond by serving. ”Some leaders of the Hindu nationalist ruling BJP are not happy with the volunteer service of Muslims.
