Former police officer Derek Shavin has been convicted of murder in the George Floyd murder case.
A 12-member jury has convicted former police officer Derek Shavin of murder after a three-week trial of the murder of George Floyd, an African-American black man, by police. The jury found Derek Shaven guilty on three counts, including murder, after which Derek Shaven was arrested in a courtroom.
US President Joe Biden said the jury's verdict was "organized racism is a stain on the nation's spirit, while George Floyd's death is a murder in broad daylight."
Event Background:
On the evening of May 25 last year, the police received a call from a grocery store alleging that a man, George Floyd, had paid with a counterfeit 20 20 note. Police officers did not arrive at the scene in a police vehicle that caused Dallas to fall to the ground and told police he was suffocated and panicked from the confined space because he was a cluster-phobic.
An initial post-mortem report following George Floyd's death revealed that former police officer Derek Shawne had injected George Floyd's knee into his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, of which Floyd became immobile about three minutes later.
In the viral video, George Floyd kept saying, "Please, I can't breathe and don't hit me." The video was followed by days of anti-racism protests in the United States.
