At least 41 people have drowned after a boat capsized off the coast of Tunisia as they tried to cross the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Tunisia to reach an Italian island.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) confirmed the incident and said it was "deeply saddened" to receive reports of the boat sinking in southeastern Tunisia. The Tunisian National Coast Guard said a child was among those drowned. The bodies of all the victims have been recovered, while the National Guard has rescued three people. Tunisia's civil protection services say the boat sank off the coast of Tunisia on Thursday.
According to media reports, 39 refugees from the same city were killed in a boat sinking last month, while a similar accident took place in June last year in which 60 people were killed in a boat sinking.
