Elizabeth Smart, the host of a US channel and a child rights activist, has revealed that she has not told her parents about her sexual abuse during her nine-month abduction.
Elizabeth Smart, 33, has made a startling revelation that she has kept her abuse hidden from her parents for years.
Elizabeth says she was so embarrassed by the brutality that happened to her that she couldn't even tell her parents what had happened to her.
According to foreign media reports, Elizabeth was abducted in Salt Lake City, Utah in June 2002 and was released in March 2003. During this time, the kidnappers continued to sexually abuse her on a daily basis.
According to the report, Elizabeth was abducted by a criminal named Brian David Michael with the help of his wife Wend Aberzy and kept under house arrest.
"When I got home nine months later, my parents were eager to hear what I had to say, but I couldn't tell them how I was treated," she said.
"Ten years later, when I testified in court and told them about my treatment, my parents found out," he said.
In September 2018, the court sentenced Brian David to life imprisonment and his wife Venda to 12 years in prison.
