The new US administration has made another history.

 

For the first time in US history, a black man was appointed Secretary of Defense.

Former President Lloyd Austin has been named Secretary of Defense by US President Joe Biden, and the Senate has now approved his appointment.

Former General Lloyd Austin will be the first black Secretary of Defense in US history. Lloyd Austin was the head of the US military in Iraq and retired in 2016. Earlier, Kamala Harris made history by becoming the first female US Vice President.

Under U.S. law, a retired four-star Army general needs Senate approval to take office. After Senate approval, former General Lloyd Austin is now the first black Patnagon chief in U.S. history.
