According to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), a total of about 60,000 babies were born in India on the first day of 2021, the highest number of births on January 1 in any country in the world. However, the number is 7,390 less than the number of children born on January 1 last year.
UNICEF estimates that the number of children born on January 1 in China is half that of India this year. On January 1, 2021, 35,615 children were born in China. An estimated 371,504 babies were born worldwide on January 1. Of these, 52% were born in 10 countries.
