A South Korean delegation left for Tehran on Thursday.
The delegation will negotiate with the Iranian leadership for the release of the South Korean oil tanker and its crew members, which were seized by Iranian authorities in the Strait of Hormuz this week.
The South Korean ship has a crew of 20 in the custody of Iranian authorities.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards said in a statement that they had seized a South Korean oil tanker, the Han Kook Kemi, and that it was carrying crude oil on the cargo ship. The shipment was loaded with 7,200 tons of chemicals, in violation of international environmental law in commercial shipping.
