Pictures of a strange creature resembling a human being found in Myanmar went viral on social media, but the truth soon came to light.
The five photos went viral on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter, showing a humanoid creature sitting by the river. These photos have been shared more than 200 times.
A Burmese-language blog with photos says the Nago creature, which is found in Myanmar, is now extinct.
The blog states that the creature is human-like and has one leg, a pointed tip on its back with which it climbs trees.
The blog further states that while running, its speed is faster than that of all living beings.
Social media users expressed surprise and fear over these photos, but with the help of the internet, the reality of these photos soon came to light.
Through reverse image search, these images proved to be of the year 2016. According to articles published at the time, it was actually a sculpture created by a French artist.
The statue was made of clay, algae and seaweed and was installed by the river in a nature reserve in France.
According to an article published in a French newspaper about the sculpture, the artist completed the sculpture with the help of crowdfunding and with her husband, who is also a visual artist.
A French channel also produced a video report on it, which is available on YouTube.
