Fourteen U.S. military officers involved in violence and harassment against women and junior personnel at a U.S. military base have been fired.
A female officer has been killed at a military base in the US state of Texas this year, while 14 military officers have been suspended for harassing and torturing other women. All of these fired officers were independently investigated under U.S. military law, after which evidence of all the allegations came to light. Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy also confirmed that the impartial Civil Review Board had conducted an active investigation into a large number of complaints received at Fort Hood Base in Texas. Lack of effective prevention of harassment encouraged sexual exploitation. While the number of deaths, disappearances and other incidents in Fort Hood is higher than any other military base, it is a proof of the failure of the leadership here.
