Naeem Bukhari, the newly appointed chairman of Pakistan Television, has hinted at a 'blackout' of the opposition on PTV.
Asked outside the Supreme Court building whether the opposition would be given equal airtime on PTV, Naeem Bukhari said, "Absolutely not." Is an institution and it will present only the position of the government. On this, the reporter asked 'only the government'? To which Naeem Bukhari replied, "Yes, only the government."
It may be recalled that the notification of the appointment of Naeem Bukhari as Chairman PTV was issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Monday. Naeem Bukhari has extensive experience in conducting programs on television.
It may be recalled that during the previous PML-N government, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had insisted that the opposition be given equal broadcasting time on PTV and even be allowed to hold a press conference in the Press Information Department. Interestingly, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's manifesto called for the PTV to be transformed into the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) style.
Prominent lawyer Naeem Bukhari was appointed to head the state-run Pakistan Television.
