The former prime minister, who is undergoing treatment in London, said on Twitter that the inquiry report into the Karachi incident was a failed attempt to cover up the real facts.

Nawaz Sharif said, "This practice of sacrificing junior officers to save oneself is reprehensible."

It may be recalled that a statement issued by the Pakistan Army Public Relations Department (ISPR) today said that Sindh Rangers and Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) officers involved in the Karachi incident have been suspended.

In a statement, the ISPR had said that the Army's Court of Inquiry has been completed regarding the concerns of Inspector General (IG) Sindh over the incident which took place against the backdrop of desecration of Mazar-e-Quaid. It was done on the orders of General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

On the other hand, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has welcomed the investigation into the Karachi incident and action against those responsible.

He had said that "the democratic procedure is to investigate any wrongdoing and take action against those involved".

Action against those responsible for Karachi incident is victory of democratic forces: PDM

In this regard, the anti-government opposition Ittehad Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has termed the investigation into the Karachi incident involving IG Sindh and disciplinary action against those responsible as a victory of democratic forces.

PDM spokesman Information Secretary Mian Iftikhar Hassan said that the progress made by the Pakistan Army Public Relations (ISPR) in its investigation into the Karachi incident was in fact a victory for the democratic forces.

He said the PDM had demanded that the inquiry be made fruitful.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that it was good that progress was made in this regard, now those responsible should be brought to justice as soon as possible.

He said that PDM would hold further consultations in this regard.

Later in the evening, a few hours after the meeting, PML-N leader Capt (retd) Safdar was arrested from a hotel in Karachi on charges of violating the sanctity of Mazar-e-Quaid.

Capt (retd) Safdar was granted bail by the court on the same day but the matter took a new turn when an audio in the voice of PML-N leader and former Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair was sent to a journalist on social media. Was shared with

In the audio, Muhammad Zubair was alleging that "Murad Ali Shah had confirmed to him that an attempt was made to put pressure on the first IG Sindh police to send him for arrest".

The audio said, "When he denied it, the Rangers kidnapped him at 4 am and the Chief Minister told me the same thing. I asked him again about the word kidnapping and he told me that he was picked up and They took him to the Sector Commander's office where the Additional IG was present and forced him to issue an order.

Later, during a press conference at the Chief Minister's House, the Chief Minister had said that an inquiry into what had happened was necessary. In consultation with the comrades, it was decided that the Sindh government would investigate the matter.

However, shortly after the Chief Minister's announcement to form an inquiry committee, senior police officers, including the Inspector General of Sindh Police, had applied for leave for undue interference in the arrest of Capt. (R) Safdar.

After this request, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto also held a press conference and said that from SHO to IG level officers are asking who were the people who attacked us after 2 pm. There was a siege outside the IG's house.

He also demanded that Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) investigate the matter on their own.

Later, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa took notice of the incident in Karachi in which "pressure was put on the police" for the arrest of PML-N leader Capt (retd) Safdar.

Besides, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also met IG Sindh after which Sindh Police had issued a statement.

The statement said that Inspector General of Sindh Police had taken notice of Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on the incident of putting 'pressure on the police' for the arrest of PML-N leader Capt (retd) Safdar in Karachi. After that, the decision to go on holiday was postponed.

A day earlier, the police had termed the case against PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz and her husband Capt (retd) Safdar for violating the sanctity of Mazar-e-Quaid as 'false'.
