Iran's Foreign Minister Jawad Zarif has slammed Israel for its harsh response to the assassination of key nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizada, saying the cowardly act was a provocation and that the killers would regret it.

Mohsen Fakhrizada was a prominent Iranian nuclear scientist. According to an important document obtained by Israel in 2018, he was the head of the nuclear weapons program. In May 2018, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu specifically mentioned Fakhrzada's name in his speech on Iran's nuclear program.
