A beautiful and historic wooden mosque on the shores of the Mediterranean in Istanbul suddenly caught fire.
Arab News reports that Turkish firefighters tried their best to control the fire from both sea and land.
The Venice Mosque, located along the Bosphorus Strait in the Asian region of Istanbul, Turkey, was built in the 17th century during the reign of Sultan Uthman IV.
The Istanbul Civil Defense Department said in a tweet that the fire had been contained and efforts were being made to cool the area.
Firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to the forest behind the mosque and nearby houses.
The nearby Coast Guard also assisted in the struggle.
The governor of Istanbul has said that an investigation has been launched into the matter but the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
