EU announces $1.2 billion aid to Afghanistan.

The European Union has announced 1.2 billion euros in aid to Afghanistan. The announcement was made by the European Union at the Afghanistan Conference 2020 in Geneva in co-operation with the United Nations, Finland, and Afghanistan.

The European Union was represented at the meeting, which was held online due to the coronavirus, by European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jota Arpelinin.

"This announcement of financial support from Europe is an expression of how important a peaceful, democratic, independent and prosperous Afghanistan is to us," he said.

He said that this assistance is for the next 4 years. It aims to make the lives of the Afghan people easier through corruption-free good governance, sustainable development, lifting people out of poverty, and institutional reforms.
