Corona drug development in Pakistan enters final stage, positive results of trial

The development of a drug for the treatment of corona in Pakistan has entered a critical phase and the successful clinical trials of the Dow University of Health Sciences Covid-19 medicine are beginning to yield very positive results.

According to the Dow University of Health Sciences, successful clinical trials of the university's Covid-19 drug interventional immunoglobulin (CIVIG) are beginning to yield very positive results.

The recovery rate of critically ill patients included in the clinical trial was 100%, while the recovery rate of critically ill patients admitted in ICU was more than 60% while 50% of the recovered patients were discharged from the hospital in just 5 days.

It may be recalled that pre-clinical trials of CIVIG at Dow University began in early April and the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) immediately approved its clinical trials.

The basic funding for the CIVIG preparation project was provided by Dow University of Health Sciences in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission, while Dr. Shaukat Ali and his team under the supervision of the University's Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammad Saeed Qureshi provided CIV. Started work on VIG project.

Dr. Shaukat Ali told the media that CIV vaccine is prepared by separating the antibodies obtained from the plasma of healthy patients from Corona.

He said the effectiveness of CIVIG in such patients was a significant achievement and that corona patients had been asked to donate plasma.

He said that the Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority had also given special permission in this regard. However, as the wave of corona is accelerating, it will not be possible to produce the required amount of medicine as plasma is to be donated. The trend is low.

Dr. Shaukat Ali added that the average age of the patients in the clinical trial was 60 years and almost all of them were suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease which put their lives at high risk. - The effectiveness of IVIG is a very important achievement.

He said that clinical trials for CIVIG at Dow University Hospital began in early June, but that clinical trials have been stepped up following the second wave of corona. Therefore, plasma of healthy people from Corona is needed so that a large quantity of medicine can be prepared.

He said that Dr. Shaukat Ali said that research on Corona's disease is still going on but Corona is usually fatal for three reasons.

Explaining further, Dr. Shaukat Ali said that the first reason is that the corona attacks the human lungs and damages them. The second reason is that the virus causes the human immune system of the infected person to become uncontrollable or out of control. Storm is named.

The third reason, he said, is that secondary bacterial infections in critically ill people spread sepsis throughout the body, which can be fatal.

It should be noted that plasma-derived antibodies from corona have been dubbed CIVIG, which regulates the immune system by preventing it from deteriorating, while specially obtained transparent Other antibodies in plasma prevent secondary bacterial infections.

It is to be noted that in view of the second wave of Corona virus in Pakistan and the onset of winter season, the number of cases is increasing with each passing day, after which experts have advised to take special precautionary measures.

The total number of people infected with the virus in the country is 371,508 out of which 328,931 have recovered which is more than 88% while the number of deaths has reached 7,603.

According to official figures, in the last 24 hours, 2,843 cases of corona virus and 42 deaths were reported in the country, while 1,389 patients recovered, bringing the number of active cases to 34,974.

It may be recalled that the first case of this global epidemic in the country was reported on February 26, 2020, after which the outbreak spread rapidly till June. However, the situation started improving in July and continued till early September.

Cases began to rise again in mid-September and accelerated in October, with the trend continuing into November.
